Thomas Schuurman
MSc student · 2026My name is Thomas Schuurman, a Dutch MSc student from Radboud University in the Netherlands. During the field season of 2026, I will study ecological factors affecting the Apollo butterfly on Gotland. More specifically, in spring I will use 3D-printed model caterpillars and motion-triggered cameras to identify and quantify predation on apollo larvae. During the summer, I will investigate nectar plant preferences of adult apollo by mapping floral abundance and measuring nectar sugar production of visited and non-visited plant species. I am interested in both plants and butterflies, but the interactions between them are what I find most interesting!
